Woman dragged to ground and sexually assaulted by unknown man during early hours in seaside city centre

A WOMAN has allegedly been pulled to the floor and sexually assaulted during an early hours attack in a seaside city centre as cops hunt a key witness.

The reported incident is alleged to have unfolded on September 12 last year as a woman made her way alone along a street in the centre of Plymouth, Devon.

It is alleged she was approached by an unknown man who followed her and attempted to engage her in conversation.

The man then tried to pull the woman’s top down, cops said.

It is alleged that he then continued to follow the woman and dragged her to the ground before putting his hand over her mouth.

The woman screamed and alerted a nearby passerby, causing the suspect to flee.

Following the ordeal the passerby gave the alleged victim her jacket and walked her home.

The passerby was a woman in her 20s, who gave her name as Sophia and said she had just finished work, cops said.

Devon and Cornwall Police are now frantically attempting to locate Sophia.

The force said they are keen to speak with her as part of an investigation which was launched when the alleged sexual assault was reported on January 26.

Police say the suspect is described as a white male, in his early 20s, with tattoos on his forearms and wearing a black puffer-style jacket.

The force added: “If you can help identify Sophia, or are the witness herself, please contact us on 101 or via our website quoting 50260021188.”
