In the closing stages of the match several individuals broke onto the pitch and ran around chaotically.

Some sprinted towards Messi to grab a selfie, while others ran just to escape security.

At one point a supporter who was chased around the pitch went up to Messi and embraced the super star, putting his arms around him.

Security eventually caught up and dragged the fan to the floor, who inadvertently pulled Messi down with him.

The Argentine quickly got up and regained his composure, but did not seem too shaken by the incident.

Messi, 38, is a regular target of pitch invaders by selfie-loving fanatics.

His former Navy Seal bodyguard is often on hand to stop the runners in their tracks but he was nowhere to be seen in Puerto Rico.

He had developed a reputation for “spawning out of nowhere” and tackling fans.

But in a friendly last year he was surprisingly beaten and knocked to the floor for the first time ever.

A supporter wearing a Messi No10 shirt charged out the stands and sprinted towards the former Barcelona and PSG star.

He ended up slipping and dodging the bodyguard’s tackle, accidentally sending him tumbling to the deck as well by wiping out his leg.

The fan bounced back up and was able to briefly hug Messi before being dragged away by the security guard.
