A MOTORING expert has revealed what they believe is the most reliable used car in the UK – and it might not be the model you expect.
The industry insider shared their top pick for drivers looking to avoid costly breakdowns and bills.
According to the specialist, drivers who choose this model are far less likely to face unexpected problems – making it a smart buy for anyone wanting stress-free motoring.
William Fletcher, a car expert and CEO of car.co.uk revealed to the Express that the Toyota Yaris is their top pick for reliability.
The compact hatchback has built up a strong reputation for durability, low running costs and dependable performance – making it a favourite among UK motorists looking for hassle-free driving.
He also pointed out Toyota’s long warranties.

William said: “The humble Toyota Yaris, the 58th most popular car model in the UK, is one of the most reliable cars on British roads, with thousands of owners reporting zero faults in a given year.
“Backed by Toyota’s reputation for durability, the Yaris benefits from simple, well-proven engineering and is highly dependable.
“Repair costs are typically low, it sits in modest insurance groups, and Toyota’s warranty can extend up to 10 years when serviced within the network – making it one of the safest bets for hassle-free, affordable motoring.”
Toyota Yaris sells for around £1,500 with a good third generation example selling from between £2,500 to £3,000.
In 2023, RRG reported that just over 715,000 Yarises had been sold in the UK between 1999 and 2022 – one of the most popular small cars on sale in Britain.
American Youtuber and professional mechanic David Long, also known as the Car Wizard, agreed with the expert.
He said you can get good miles per gallon in the city and on the highway, but the key thing is that it’s good for the economy in the city.
He added that they sell for about $4,000 to $5,000 (£3,050 to £3,815) for ones in good shape, plus they come in both manual and automatic.
