Clare is understood to be in critical condition while Nicolas is less severely injured following the terrifying fall in the Teotihuacan Valley near Mexico City.

The couple were treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital after horrific drop in Mexico on Monday.

The firm responsible for organising the hot air balloon trip has been named by local cops as Happy Puerto.

The pilot, Santiago Torres, was reportedly quizzed by cops after being arrested.

Local police have now opened a probe into the shocking ordeal.

Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency said: “The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) reports that at 8.40am this morning, in the municipality of Teotihuacan, State of Mexico, an incident was reported involving a hot-air balloon coming into contact with power lines.”

They added: “Two people were travelling in the aircraft, registered as XA-OZY and operated by Happy Puerto, who suffered burns from an electric shock.

“They were transferred to Mexico City for treatment at a private hospital.

“The AFAC is launching an administrative investigation into the incident.”
