A tiny toy car has sold for a world record price of £22,050 because of its rare colour.
The 1968 Matchbox Regular Wheels 62c Mercury Cougar sold for the eye-watering sum at a UK auction last month after a ferocious bidding war.
The retro motor has a pale yellow body, making it one of just hundreds ever made in the colour.
The yellow was a first-issue colour and wasn’t produced in the shade for very long, before being changed to lime green.
It also has clear windows without windscreen wipers and without a rearview mirror, confirming it is an early casting which was not repainted.
The toy was sold by Vectis Auctions in Stockton, County Durham, to an international buyer on January 20.

Ian Main, an expert at the auction house, said the previous highest amount paid for a Matchbox car was about £13,500.
It is not known how many yellow Mercury Cougars were been produced, but he estimated it to be in the low hundreds.
He said it was unclear why the colour of the model had changed so quickly after production started, but noted this yellow toy is in particularly good condition.
“Ultimately it was two buyers that kind of broke away from the other bidders and just bid against each other, up to the price that we saw,” he added.
