And she was overcome with emotion after Weston sensationally bagged Team GB‘s first medal of the Milan-Cortina Games.

Yarnold knows a thing or two about winning skeleton gold, having triumphed at the 2014 and 2018 games in Sochi and Pyeongchang respectively.

And the 37-year-old was almost brought to tears as she analysed and reflected on Weston’s victory.

She said: “It’s a hugely emotional moment when you have that Olympic medal.

“I’m finding it a sliding doors moment that I can’t believe we are here. I was so hoping for this moment.”

An emotional Yarnold then covered her mouth as she fought back the tears.

Veteran presenter Clare Balding interrupted her and said: “I’m going to give you a break.”

Before losing her composure, which she regained, Yarnold said of Weston’s victory: “Every single one of the four runs were absolute perfection.

“Incredibly impressive from Matt Weston.

“What stands out for me is each and every time Matt Weston stood at the start block he was looking down the track, he excelled, he accelerated, he was so focused.

“I really can’t find the words to describe how incredibly impressed I am with his performance.”

Weston claimed Team GB’s first medal of the games by finishing nearly a FULL SECOND ahead of his rivals.

The 28-year-old said: “It means everything.

“It means a hell of a lot to me personally. I have worked so hard for this.
