SIR Keir Starmer has refused to back his Home Secretary on a migrant crackdown – after Angela Rayner branded it “un-British”.
The PM declined to answer questions on the new rule – in particular the debate on permanent residency.
In the new rules, the wait for permanent residency would be extended from five to ten years.
This would also controversially apply to migrants already living in the UK.
Rayner spoke out about the policy, accusing it of threatening to “pull the rug” from under families.
This defies Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s claims that the plans are “entirely consistent with Labour values”.
