Sharon Stone has fiercely defended Sydney Sweeney weeks after she faced a barrage of backlash over her controversial American Eagle jeans campaign.
Over the summer, Euphoria actress Sweeney, 28, starred in a viral ad for the brand’s jeans, which provoked a social media meltdown.
The commercial, titled ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,’ showed the star buttoning up a set of denim trousers and offering a playful pun on the word ‘genes.’
‘Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color… my jeans are blue,’ she said.
The campaign was met with an explosion of controversy upon its launch in July, as social media users feverishly accused it of being racist and flirting with eugenics in light of its star’s blonde-haired, azure-eyed appearance.
Speaking at Variety’s Power of Women LA event on Wednesday, Stone passionately hit back at Sweeney’s critics.
‘It’s OK to use what mama gave you,’ she said. ‘It’s really fine.
‘It’s hard to be hot, and I think we all know that. It’s really okay to use every bit of hotness you have – right here, right now – and go for whatever that is.

‘Everybody has their own certain kind of hotness, their own certain thing, and you’re supposed to go for that.
‘Because who are you not to be beautiful? You know, who you are isn’t an accident.’
Stone and Sweeney have been working together on Euphoria season three for the last few months.
In recent weeks, Sweeney refused to answer questions about the American Eagle campaign during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her passion project Christy, a biopic of boxing champion Christy Martin.
Before the glamorous event, she declared to Vanity: ‘I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it, and I’m not there to talk about jeans.
‘The movie’s about Christy, and that’s what I’ll be there to talk about.’
Earlier this month, Sweeney confirmed her romance with Scooter Braun, 44.
The pair were seen holding hands at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in Los Angeles. The actress’s mother Lisa and father Steven were also with them.

The group were flanked by five private security guards and VIP tour guides during the outing.
It comes as the Daily Mail has learned that the budding pair are very serious.
‘They talk every day and see each other often, it is hot and heavy,’ a source said.
‘I don’t want to say the L word, but it feels like the L word. They seem very much in love, or at least incredibly in lust.
‘The attraction is she is hot as can be and he is an old soul who is helping her guide her way through sudden fame and her exploding career. He gives great advice. They have what each other wants.’
