Premier League cult hero leaves role at faltering Aston Villa in very abrupt statement

MANCHESTER CITY legend Shaun Goater has departed his role as Aston Villa’s Women’s assistant coach.

The 56-year-old’s departure was announced via a brief statement from the club.

“Aston Villa Women can confirm Women’s Assistant Coach, Shaun Goater has departed the club.

“We would like to thank Shaun for his commitment and contribution during his time and wish him well for the future.”

Goater first came to the club in August 2024 as an assitant coach.

In December of the same year, the former prolific goalscorer took caretaker charge of the women’s side following the departure of Robert de Pauw.

With the appointment of Natalia Arroyo, Goater returned to his previous assistant coach duties.

Goater spent three years working behind the scenes at Man City first with the academy and then the women’s side, the club where he really made his name.

The Bermudan international, who scored 20 goals in 22 caps, spent five years in the blue-half of Manchester where he scored 84 league goals.

Goater would eventually score 103 goals for the club in all competitions in 212 appearances.

His 100th goal came against rivals Man United in the local derby, the club he actually started his professional career with back n 1989.
