One dead, two others seriously injured after wild road brawl in the Northern Territory

A young man was killed and a teenager and older woman seriously injured when a large group of people fought at a roadside in the Northern Territory.

Emergency services were called to the Victoria Highway at Timber Creek, an isolated small town 350km south of Darwin, at 8.50pm on Monday.

They received reports a group, some armed with edged weapons, were fighting at the roadside.

Police say an unidentified man drove a car dangerously through the area, fatally hitting a 27-year-old man.

A 16-year-old boy and 65-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when they were allegedly attacked with edged weapons.

Officers said a 24-year-old man was also assaulted, resulting in minor injuries.

The teenager and older woman were stabilised at the scene before being transported via air doctor to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Three crime scenes were set up by police with additional resources deployed from Katherine to the northeast.

The Victoria Highway – the main road connecting the NT to northern Western Australia – was closed in both directions on Tuesday.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 131 444.
