THIS is the terrifying moment a driver smashes into a car leaving a screaming woman trapped inside as cops hunt the motorist who fled the scene.

In horror CCTV, a BMW can be seen crashing into the woman’s car in Wednesbury, West Midlands on Saturday.

The shocking footage shows a Citroen travelling down Hyde Road before the BMW comes hurtling toward the driver from the opposite direction.

Travelling at astonishing speed the motor crashes into the driver’s side of the Citroen which is knocked onto the pavement.

The impact of the collision sheers off its wheel as the car’s tyre and debris are seen thrown across the road.

While the BMW can be seen skidding out of shot further down the street.

West Midlands Police has now launched an investigation into the incident, revealing the BMW later hit a tree before its occupants fled the scene.

In other footage online, local residents and drivers can be seen stopping their cars and rushing to help the woman in the car.

She eventually emerges with police later saying she was treated by paramedics.

One resident told Birmingham Live that he heard “screaming” and that the BMW “ended up about 400 yards down the road”.

He told the outlet: “I went over to the Citroen and tried to open the door but I couldn’t get it to work.

“I went around to the passenger side and there was smoke everywhere. I just wanted to get her out. I grabbed hold of her and managed to pull her out.”

The resident of 20 years added that “it’s gone absolutely mad” in recent years and that the road is “crazy” where drivers just “put their foot down”.

He also revealed a local nurse tended to the woman while he helped clear the wreckage from the street.

West Midlands Police said: “We were called to Hydes Road at around 9am yesterday following reports of an collision.

“A car hit another car before hitting a tree. The occupants fled the car before we arrived at the scene.

“One woman was treated by paramedics.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat on our website quoting log 1002 of February 28.”
