Mo Salah ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Liverpool with two clear options emerging after early season bust-up

TEAMS in America and Saudi Arabia are interested in Mohamed Salah as his Liverpool future continues to remain uncertain.

Salah, 33, has under 18 months left on his bumper Anfield deal which was signed just under a year ago.

At the time it looked like Salah was going to leave for free off the back of his best season yet as the Reds also negotiated with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In the end Salah and Van Dijk signed two-year contracts until 2027, pushing the can down the road but ensuring both key players remained.

The issue of whether to keep Salah beyond this summer, let alone the next one, continues.

According to the BBC, Liverpool’s second top scorer of all-time is “increasingly likely” to depart at the end of the season.

Clubs from the MLS and Saudi Pro League are seen as potential options with Liverpool desperate not to lose their Egyptian King for nothing.

Saudi sides have been vocal in the past of their admiration for Salah, offering more than £100million to get him in January previously.

All of this comes in the wake of his major falling out with manager Arne Slot over the winter.

Salah insisted in December, after being benched for the third game in a row during Liverpool’s horror run, that the club had “thrown me under the bus” and that “someone doesn’t want me.”

He added: “I think it’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame.

“The club promised me in the summer for a lot of promises and nothing.”

On Slot, who was coming under massive scrutiny for his handling of Salah and the squad, he said: “I said that many times before, I had a good relationship with the manager.

“And all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why.”

These comments came just before AFCON, where Salah went away with his country and produced.

Many felt that he had played his last game at Liverpool and a mid-season move was on the cards.

Slot named him as a sub in the first game after his explosive mixed zone interview – a rarity which split opinion – but was forced to bring Salah on after just 20 minutes due to an injury.

The winger got a late assist and could easily have scored despite some still believing it was set to be his farewell.

As it happened, Slot and Salah patched things up, though, with the BBC saying he was seen as being as happy as ever when at AFCON.

The Egyptian King has had a poor season by his standards

Salah returned to the team afterwards and has been a regular.

Although the goals have dried up – Salah is yet to score in the Prem since November 1 – he has three assists in the last five.

Two weeks ago he scored and assisted in the FA Cup against Brighton as well.

Slot has praised Salah’s work ethic and qualities since the drama and recently said: “He sets his own standards and those are so, so high that the moment he doesn’t score for a few games, people are immediately surprised.

“That’s probably the biggest compliment he can get.”

Slot had said earlier in February after the Brighton FA Cup win: “What I like the most is he is scoring goals [which you] almost expect.

“But he also helps the team a lot defensively and that is something very positive.”

What Liverpool do with him over the summer as they plot another rebuild following the turbulence of 2025 is far from clear.

Salah’s exit will rely on possible buyers paying top dollar for his wages and agreeing a fee with Liverpool.

He is also settled in England and is loved by fans.

Either way, this summer will be a defining one for Salah.
