Martin Lewis reveals NHS ‘prescription season ticket’ that can save you £360 a year

MONEY saving expert Martin Lewis has revealed a little-known way to save money on NHS prescriptions that could could trim hundreds off your yearly bills

The financial guru explained that a “season ticket” could help cut down the costs of medicine for a wide range of people.

In Scotland and Wales, NHS prescriptions are free, but the cost can eat into your household budget if you live in England.

According to MoneySavingExpert: “A massive 881,000 people overpaid for their medications last year” because they paid for each one individually.

They explained Martin’s season ticket is officially called: “The NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate.”

You can choose from one that covers you for three months and costs £32.05 or annual one which costs £114.50 and lasts for a year.

It will cover all of your NHS prescriptions and it will save you money if you need more than three items in three months or more than 12 items in 12 months.

There’s also a special PPC available for those that are taking Hormone Replacement Therapy medication.

It costs £19.80 and covers an unlimited number of certain HRT medications for 12 months.

According to the NHS, if you are getting two medicines prescribed each month, you could save £123 a year, or more than £27 if you have a three-month PPC.

For those on three medications each month, it’s a saving of more than £241 per year and more than £57 across three months.

And if you are prescribed four medications each month, you’ll save more than £360 in 12 months and more than £86 over three months.

MSE advises: “Before buying a prescription season ticket, always check first if you qualify for an exemption and can avoid paying for a prescription entirely. The NHS has an online ‘Can I get free prescriptions?’ tool where you can check your eligibility.
