Kit Wilson is the British wrestling star WWE fans can’t help but love possibly heading for major WrestleMania match

KIT WILSON was carving a path alongside best friend Elton Prince before his partner suffered a devastating injury that changed the course of both of their careers.

In May 2025, Prince suffered a bad landing during a tag team match on SmackDown that would lead him to having a successful two-level neck fusion surgery in January earlier this year.

It’s not certain if the Brit will ever return to the squared circle – though there remains hope that he can – and Wilson has had to embark on an unexpected solo career in the months since the unfortunate incident.

Since then, 31-year-old Wilson has made himself one of the most entertaining stars on SmackDown, engaging audiences with his hilarious outrage at toxic masculinity.

Speaking to SunSport, Wilson opened up on his creative process since going it alone.

“I’m definitely a throw stuff at the wall kind of guy. Whether it’s to the bosses or a trusted colleague or to myself, I am pitching all the time.

“I’m writing down my notes, I’m writing down my ideas. But I do believe your best idea is your gut instinct.”

Wilson, who won tag team gold alongside Prince in NXT UK and NXT, had a true arriving moment as a singles act when WWE took their blue brand to Wembley earlier this year.

His attack of Matt Cardona and subsequent promo was the segment of the evening to many and wildly received by the live audience in London.

“It did really feel like a special moment in time. Things were building up; I’d done a lot of main event tapings matches which we film before SmackDown and I really felt like I was trying three things and like one of them would stick, trying two things and nothing stuck.

“I really felt like I was building, even if you couldn’t see certain aspects of what I was building in that performance in England, it was all a culmination. Things were bubbling. But to me, that exciting thing about that moment was that it felt like the start.”

A viral moment of his attack saw Wilson beat Cardona down and then continue his entrance strut complete with his music.

Wilson confesses that two people backstage helped bring that to fruition, including a countryman.

“I don’t want to give the wrong credit to the wrong people, however, let me say, we get a lot of help backstage and someone I was working with closely at the time on the main event taping was Nick Aldis.

“He was there helping produce and he was a big ideas guy. Another person that was helping a lot was [Shawn] Davairi.

“I wanted to attack [Matt] Cardona a certain way. I was just going to attack, but Davairi wanted to get the song in there and he was pushing like ‘we need to get the song in there, we need to get the song in.’

“And then it might have been Nick that suggested ‘Hey, why don’t we play the song after you’ve beaten him up?’ So those pieces kind of came together.

“Nick had the idea ‘well once you’ve beaten him up, it doesn’t mean you can’t still do your song.’ I think the timing of the music hit perfectly and on I went.

“And the beautiful thing about this company and entertainment is we might see a moment like that again, but it will come when it’s right, when we don’t expect it and at a fun time.”

Wilson has done his entire WWE career with Prince by his side and that means travelling the world together and driving up and down the roads in America making shows.

“I’ve had to spread my wings a bit [since Elton Prince got injured] and I talk to every one. I do have a special connection with some of the NXT UK guys.

“Me and Alba [Fyre] were sitting on the bleachers before SmackDown hanging out and talking. Obviously she’s in a situation with Piper Niven who has a similar injury situation to Elton, so we’ve got that in common. We talk about that and other things.

“Me and Axiom, we’re starting a book club. So get ready for that. We’re called the Bookmarks… read into that what you will.

“I’m getting a lot of advice. The Miz has been a great help. Everyone has been very helpful and I could go through them and expose them all, but Sami Zayn and The Miz have been really good to pick their brains, get advice and bounce ideas off.”

As much as Wilson’s current character is hitting the mark with fans – and he seems set to have a showdown of some sort with music star Jelly Roll at WrestleMania – there’s no doubt fans would love to see the Pretty Deadly tag team with Prince reunited one day.

So how is Prince?

“I don’t have any kind of breaking news update other than, things are on track. He’s had the surgery, it went well and he’s hitting the markers as he should be. However, it’s still a long, long, long, long road ahead if any.

“He’s taking it day-by-day and the silver lining is he’s got a lovely family at home and he gets to spend time with them. So that’s kind of that really; we don’t talk too much about our future plans or situations.

“Sometimes things will come up and we’ll talk a bit, but we’re kind of just letting life happen and we’re crossing our fingers.”

WrestleMania 42 goes down on April 19 and 20 from Las Vegas but fans can watch the showpiece on Netflix.
