However, no decision is thought to have been made by Britain’s second biggest pub chain, according to The Times.

It comes less than two years after the company slashed jobs in its head office due to what it described as “challenging times”.

The wider pub industry continues to be hammered by rising costs and tax rises – despite recently being handed support with business rates by the government.

Hikes to National Insurance and minimum wage, as well as rising energy bills and a fall in customers coming through the door are causing many venues to struggle.

Britain’s biggest pub chain Stonegate, which owns Slug and Lettuce, is planning to sell more than 1,000 of its venues as it’s saddled with billions of pounds of debt.

It has already cut 95 jobs in a restructure, and a further 80 are at risk, according to industry newsletter Propel.

Meanwhile, beer giant Heineken announced last week it would cut up to 6,000 jobs worldwide as it faces “challenging market conditions”.

Some of these job cuts could be in the UK, although it’s not yet known how many.

Punters are also facing price hikes to their favourite beers as brewers push up prices.

Heineken recently increased prices of some of its popular beers including Amstel and Birra Moretti by 2.7%, while Guinness is rising by around 4p a pint from April, maker Diageo said.
