AN ICONIC 90s TV megastar was unrecognisable as he stepped into character in a sequin skirt and a blonde wig for a new role.

The star was usually suited and booted for one of his best known roles, but embraced a very different aesthetic for his latest character.

In fact, fans of David Duchovny would be forgiven for not recognising him at all as he filmed scenes for his latest film Soapbox.

David, 65, headed to set in drag as his character wearing a black sequin mini skirt, a black lace blouse, tights and a blonde wig.

He completed his character’s look with sunglasses and a slick of red lipstick but he went for comfort in regards to his feet by wearing some grey slippers.

In between takes, David slipped off the wig and was seen enjoying a chat with production crew.

As well as starring in the comedy film alongside Orange is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox, David also co-wrote it.

According to Deadline, Soapbox focuses on an ageing soap star who finds himself caught in the absurdities of today’s culture wars.

The film is also a family affair as his 26-year-old daughter West Duchovny – who he shares with ex-wife Téa Leoni – will also have a role.

The cast also includes Randall Park, Jimmi Simpson, and Jennifer Grey.

David played Agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files from 1993 to May 2002 across nine seasons.

He starred alongside Gillian Anderson in the series, which returned in 2016 to 2018, and the pair also teamed up for two feature films.
