Huge Game Of Thrones FILM officially in the works 7 years after TV series ended

A BLOCKBUSTER Game of Thrones film is officially in the works — seven years after the hit TV series ended.

The big screen adaptation of the HBO franchise is currently in its early stages of development, but a script has already been handed in to Warner Bros.

Rather than follow on from where the series left off in 2019, the film is set to be a prequel.

It will tell the story of how the House of Targaryen was formed and its founder Aegon.

The dynasty ultimately led to Emilia Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, dominating the fictional continent of Westeros as the Mother of Dragons.

Writer Beau Willimon, who developed a US version of political drama House of Cards, has penned the script based on George RR Martin’s fantasy novels.

Warner Bros are said to be ready to inject hundreds of millions into the project.

They hope to create a film on par with the Oscar-winning sci-fi trilogy Dune.

Split into three parts and starring Zendaya, 29, and Timothee Chalamet, 30, Dune is widely regarded as the pinnacle of blockbuster films.

Part one had a budget of £135 million and grossed over £350 million at the box office.

The Game of Thrones film isn’t the only spin-off from the main HBO series.

Bosses were said to be working on a Jon Snow stand-alone series with actor Kit Harington, 39, – but it has never materialised.

In 2024 George Martin confirmed via his blog that he also hoped an animated series would come to fruition.

However, the project has not been mentioned since.

Meanwhile, new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been a runaway success.

Like the upcoming film, the series also focuses on the House of Targaryen.

Last month’s final pulled in 9.3 million viewers.

A second series has already been commissioned with filming taking place in Spain and Ireland.
