A TIN of soup is relatively cheap, and easy to cook, but it may not be quite enough to fill you up.
So, add some extras to turn it into a hearty dish.
Make a meal from your bowlful with these four ideas . . .
NEST IS BEST: Heat a can of chicken soup, like Stockwell & Co from Tesco (55p), then add a nest of cooked egg noodles, which works out at around 20p.
Throw in half a cup of frozen sweetcorn, then slowly stir in a beaten egg.
You’ll end up with a filling meal for around £1.

TOM FUN: Tomato soup is a great base for making a chunky minestrone-style soup that will also use up leftovers.
Add some cooked pasta or rice, then increase the fibre by using green lentils or beans from a tin. You can also chuck in any spare vegetables, such as cooked chopped carrots, peppers or cabbage.
If you have any cream, crème fraiche or yogurt, a swirl when you’re serving adds another layer of flavour.
FAMILY FAVOURITE: Make family mealtimes a breeze with a couple of tins of tomato soup and ready-made tortelloni.
If you choose a soup brand like Heinz, buy a six-tin pack to save money.
Otherwise, supermarket own brand tinned soup works out cheapest — Aldi’s Bramwell cream of tomato is 63p. While the soup is warming, cook a pack of spinach and ricotta tortelloni (£1.75 from Aldi).
Add the two together and serve with some cheese sprinkled over the top. It’s a meal that no one will turn their nose up at for less than £1 a portion.
HOT STUFF: Turn a steaming bowl of vegetable soup into a hearty meal by bulking it up with some tinned beans.
For an extra hit of goodness, stir in a handful of frozen spinach (£1.60 for 900g at Tesco).
Top your veggie concoction with crunchy croutons, made by either frying cubes of stale bread in butter or oil, or baking them in the oven or air fryer.
