GARY CALDWELL has been announced as the new manager of Wigan – after his move was ‘leaked’ on fitness app Strava.
The 43-year-old returns to the club for his second spell in charge, almost 10 years after he was initially sacked.
He joins straight from League One rivals Exeter City, putting an end to his four-year spell with the Grecians.
A statement from Wigan read: “The Board believes this appointment represents a step forward – reconnecting the club’s proud past with an ambitious future.
“With Caldwell and David Perkins both returning to the Brick Community Stadium, there is renewed optimism and a shared determination to build a team that supporters can be proud of.
“We can confirm that Assistant Head Coach Glenn Whelan and First-Team Coach Nicky Adams have departed the Football Club.

“We thank both Glenn and Nicky for their efforts and wish them well in the future.”
The news of his arrival comes after speculation grew due to a Strava update from an Exeter staff member.
Club physio Michael McBride appeared to confirm Caldwell’s exit with a post on the fitness app.
The popular running app allows users to share the distance and speed covered during a run.

And in a post on Saturday, he shared that it was his “last one” with the manager and his assistant, David Perkins.
A screenshot of the message subsequently went viral on X and fans took it as a hint that Caldwell would be on the move.
The new Wigan boss previously spent five years at the club at the end of his playing career and played a part in winning the FA Cup in 2013.
He was then named the club’s manager just two months after retiring in 2015 but left 18 months later, having led the team to the League One title.
Wigan currently sit 22nd in the League One table, level on points with Rotherham.
They crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday following a 4-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
