EasyJet pilot forced to abort landing at last moment as wedding party set off fireworks close to runway

AN EASYJET pilot has been forced to abort a landing after a rowdy wedding procession set off fireworks near a runway.

The captain was left in shock after seeing a dozen explosions erupt close to a French airport as plumes of smoke blocked off his visibility and made landing impossible.

At the time of the blasts, at around 5:40pm, the pilot had no idea what was going on – even fearing the eruptions could be related to gunfire.

These concerns led to him being forced into performing a quick-thinking maneuver in midair.

He hit the throttle and ramped up in speed before quickly climbing back up in the air to attempt to contact the control tower.

The chaos left pilots circling over the nearby areas of Essonne, Sénart and eastern Val-de-Marne.

It was later revealed that almost all flights set to arrive at Paris-Orly airport on April 5, via runway 3 were forced to divert.

As the control tower scrambled to find the cause of the disruptions they were made to trigger emergency procedures and shut the runway immediately.

Runway 3 remained closed until around 7pm. a source confirmed.

Investigators were sent across the region to find out what was causing such major disruptions before they made the shock discovery.

A number of excited wedding-goers had spent the evening shooting fireworks into the night sky in happy celebrations, reports later revealed.

The party had let off the colourful explosives on the corner of Rue Lamartine and Rue du 8-Mai-1945 in Villeneuve-le-Roi – close to runway 3.

Around 15 cars worth of guests were involved, local media reports.

EasyJet later confirmed the pilot safely landed at Paris-Orly after controllers redirected the flight to runway 4.

An Easyjet spokesperson said: “EasyJet can confirm that the captain of flight EJU4874 from Venice to Paris Orly on 5 April elected to perform a routine ‘go around’ on arrival into Orly due to perceived fireworks in the vicinity of the runway.

“EasyJet’s pilots are highly trained in order to perform ‘go arounds’ as a precaution and in line with our procedures and the flight landed normally. At no point was the safety of the passengers onboard compromised.

“The safety and well-being of its passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”

It comes after a plane was forced to make a sudden emergency landing on a motorway – leaving the brave pilot to dodge past confused drivers.

Morning commuters got a shock when the small aircraft touched down on the busy dual-carriage road on Saturday morning.

Dashcam footage captured the incredible moment the pilot navigated the tricky landing – using Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania as a makeshift runway.
