Celebs who are ageing naturally including Kate Winslet

THE world of celebrity beauty is always full of intrigue, keeping millions of fans around the world guessing and wondering how they do it.

You wouldn’t be wrong to assume that many fork out thousands to go under the knife to achieve their enviable looks – ones they’re not afraid to flaunt either.

Just earlier last month, Bethenny Frankel, 55, vowed fans, looking decades younger in a tiny bikini on the beach as she posed up for a Sports Illustrated photoshoot.

The Real Housewives of New York City star is one of the celebs who’s been vocal about the work she has done, including Botox and a breast lift around 15 years ago.

But not everyone on the red carpet is splurging out to maintain their youthful glow and incredible figure – in fact, there are plenty of famous who are openly anti-Botox and cosmetic surgery.

And despite being decades older than when they first shot to fame, these celebs have aged like fine wine – without a single needle in sight.

There’s no denying that good genes and a healthy lifestyle play their part – however, that’s not to say that these celebs don’t have beauty secrets in their arsenal.

From the Titanic sweetheart Kate Winslet to fashion legend Alexa Chung, here are nine women who’ve said ‘no’ to Botox – and how they keep glowing instead.

Kate Winslet, 50

The A-list actress, who marked her 50th birthday last October, has gone on record many times commenting on how unrealistic Hollywood beauty standards can be, and the mum-of-three is leading by example in trying to change that narrative.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, the Avatar actress didn’t hold back when it came to a discussion about cosmetic enhancements. Kate shared that she was frustrated not only by celebs who alter their appearance, but everyday “people who save up for Botox or the shit they put in their lips”.

The Oscar-winning actress, who previously made a stomach-churning Hollywood secret, claimed that her face “hasn’t got anything in it”, meaning injectables like Botox and filler.

“My favorite thing is when your hands get old,” she added. “That’s life, in your hands. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70 and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is.”

When it comes to her skincare routine, Kate, who married marketing executive at Virgin Galactic, Edward Abel Smith, in 2012, likes to keep things simple.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, the English actress said that while she does take care of her skin, she doesn’t go overboard with different products.

“I like Tata Harper formulas for their use of natural ingredients; I love how pure they are. And I use Dr Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Face Cream – a little goes a long way and it isn’t slippery under make-up,” she told the publication.

“At night, I wash my face with the Lisa Eldridge Skin Enhancing Treatment Cleanser – it’s phenomenal and doesn’t have any nasty ingredients in it. And I drink a lot of water.”

Alexa Chung, 42

The British fashion designer, now 42, gained prominence in the mid-2000s as a major “it girl” who was known known for her effortless style and early influence on social media trends.

The TV presenter and model, who hosted Next in Fashion alongside Tan France, has previously stated that she’s not had any Botox – and would never get it either.

Speaking to The Glow Memo, the 42-year-old revealed that she has quit smoking and her new skincare routine may have also helped her enviable looks.

“I was smoking so much, then I suddenly didn’t like them. I’m trying to not get too wrinkly and I don’t want to get Botox. Not to brag, but my skin’s pretty good and I have given it a real kicking. I didn’t really have a routine up until recently.”

Alexa, who got engaged with actor Tom Sturridge in 2024, added that some of her idols, such as singer Patti Smith, 79, or actress Charlotte Rampling, 80, have wrinkles – and they’re beautiful.

“Sometimes I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to get a facelift,’ but I don’t think I really will. I’ll just live in the present and enjoy my remaining youth.”

As well as sleeping on a silk pillowcase that is more gentle to your skin, the model swears by magnesium and fish oil, Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Mask, Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm, sunscreen – even in winter – Sisley Paris Black Rose Precious Face Oil and Weleda Baby Nourishing Face Cream (£10 at Boots), just to name a few.

Salma Hayek, 59

Nearing 60, Mexican bombshell Salma Hayek has never had any Botox – more specifically, she told Kelly Ripa on Ripa’s podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera“No Botox!”

The host, 55, who has been honest about her own experience with injectables, found it hard to believe. But it’s true – instead of spending hundreds on the popular injectable and other cosmetic proceduresthe Magic Mike’s Last Dance star turns to an unusual combination of practices to stay radiant – frequency devices and meditation.

“I do a lot of the frequency machines and they work on me better than on anyone,” the mother-of-four explained. By that, she’s referring to microcurrent devices such as the NuFace and Solawave Wand.

Salma’s rather wild theory is that the massagers work exceptionally well on her because she’s a frequent meditator, and their energies work together to deliver results.

“And just the meditation itself … sometimes when I’m doing it, people tell me when I come out of the room, ‘Oh my God, you look 20 years old,’” she claimed, as reported by Prevention.

Just like fellow star Kate Winslet, the 59-year-old doesn’t like to complicate her skincare routine.

Salma, who looked sensational as she stripped down to a bikini on her birthday, relies on natural kitchen ingredients like coconut oil to remove makeup and cleanse.

“Then I use rose water to take off the residuals,” she told The New York Times in 2017. She also never washes her face in the morning, so as not to wash away “all the oils that your skin needs to look youthful,” she told British GQ in February.

The talk show host captured hearts when she appeared as Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 blockbuster E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, aged six, and over the years, she’s remained as one of the most famous stars in the world.

Drew, now 51, has since opened up about what it means to age gracefully and why she’s more focused on self-care rather than chasing perfection.

In a clip shared on Instagram, the mother-of-two spoke candidly to the audience of The Drew Barrymore Show about her approach to beauty and how she stays comfortable in her own skin.

“I haven’t done anything and I want to try and stay that way,” she said. “But I also am like, do whatever works for you. I know this woman who went through so much stuff in her life, and she just did something and it made her feel so good about herself, and it, like, changed her whole perspective.”

While she doesn’t shame others for making cosmetic changes, she herself relies on self-care and skincare products.

“I have zero judgment for anyone doing anything,” Drew explained. “But I don’t see myself resorting to it.”

What she is a fan of though, is a good noninvasive skin treatment or in-office facial. “I love the Clear + Brilliant laser,” the Hollywood star told NewBeauty. “I do it once a year to slough away my sunspots. I also try to get a facial once a year, but I just don’t have the time to go more frequently.”

If there’s one celeb you won’t catch going under the knife any time soon it’s Emma Thompson.

When asked if she’s ever considered plastic surgery, the 66-year-old vehemently said she’s against it.

The Good Luck To You, Leo Grande actress told People: “Why would you do that to yourself, I simply don’t understand.

“I do honestly think the cutting of yourself off to put it in another place in order to avoid appearing to do what you’re actually doing, which is ageing, which is completely natural, is a form of collective psychosis. I really do think it’s a very strange thing to do.”

The mum-of-two explained that this isn’t a new opinion of hers now that she’s at an age when many people often opt for face lifts.

“I’ve always thought that, though. But I’ve always been a kind of card-carrying, militant feminist when it comes to women’s bodies and what’s been done to them, what we’re told to expect of ourselves, what we’re told to do to ourselves,” she said.

While Emma hasn’t revealed much about her skincare secrets, one thing is clear – she has nailed the perfect hairdo.

According to celebrity stylist Larry King, her ageless silver pixie cut is exactly the kind of short look mature women should wear, he told Good Housekeeping.

“I think short hair only ever looks ageing when it’s too set or too stiff. You know that overly-sculpted, sprayed-into-place look – it robs the hair of life and movement. Hair should feel touchable and have a bit of personality, even when it’s short.’’

When it comes to finding the most ageless short hairdo, the expert advised to ”avoid harsh lines or heavy layering around the face, as these can drag things down a bit. You’ve got to keep short hair soft, and don’t be afraid of a little imperfection’’.

She has one of the most expressive faces in the industry – so it’s no wonder Julia Roberts, 58, doesn’t want to change it by going under the knife and getting injectables.

The award-winning Erin Brockovich actress previously claimed she may have risked her career by opting not to undergo a facelift.

“By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift,” she said in an interview with You Magazine. “But I’ve told Lancome that I want to be an ageing model – so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I’m over 50.”

Julia, whose comments came in the wake of public frenzy over Renée Zellweger’s new look in 2014, said she had found peace in middle age by “studying yoga on a more conscious level” and removing the clutter from her life.

And if you’re looking to build a simple – but effective – skincare routine ideal for busy mornings, you’ll find inspiration in the star’s three-step regime.

On a regular day, Julia told Viva, she’ll just brush her teeth, wash her face and apply SPF. To cleanse her skin, the mother-of-three relies on the Mousse Radiance Clarifying Self-foaming Cleanse by Lancome. When she’s not in a rush, the Notting Hill sweetheart adds in another Lancome product to her routine for an extra boost of hydration.

“When I’m not in a rush, I use Hydra-Intense Masque. So if I’m living in the lap of luxury, that’s what I like to do,” she said.

As for her SPF of choice, Julia told PEOPLE Magazine that she relies on Shade’s SPF 30+ for total UV protection, Woman and Home reported.

Julianne Moore, 56, might be playing the mysterious and unsettling billionaire boss in Netflix series Sirens – but she’s been settling in her skin routine ever since she was a young girl.

Instead of chasing an enteral youthful glow, The Room Next Door actress welcomes ageing with open arms and isn’t afraid to tune into her body’s needs.

“There’s so much judgement inherent in the term ‘ageing gracefully,’” Moore told As If Magazine. “Is there an ungraceful way to age? We don’t have an option, of course. No one has an option about ageing, so it’s not a positive or a negative thing, it just is.”

She continued: “It’s part of the human condition, so why are we always talking about it as if it is something that we have control over?”

Julianne, who earlier this year revealed an incredible figure in black bikini on tropical getaway with family, has been critical about plastic surgery in the past.

She told Allure: “I hate to condemn people for doing it, but I don’t believe it makes people look better. I think it just makes them look like they had something done to their face, and I don’t think we instinctively find that appealing.

“We think we do, but then when you look at somebody who’s had their face altered in some way, it just looks weird. We recognise emotionally that that’s not what we look like, that there’s something off. You don’t want to take away what makes a face look human.”

Botox has become a popular injectable amongst beauty fans as it temporarily reduces or eliminated fine lines and wrinkles.

The injection – which is commonly used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead creases – has seen a 124 per cent increase from the previous year for Botox treatments in the UK.

But despite its growing popularity, Cate Blanchett, 56, has famously stated that she feels “pity” for those who’ve spent their money on Botox and plastic surgery.

The Aussie actress and film producer previously said in an interview with the website Fashionista that she is highly sceptical about cosmetic procedures in general.

“There’s been a decade or so of people doing intervention with their face and their body. Now that we’re emerging from that people are seeing that long term it’s not so great,” said the Lord of the Rings star.

“I’m not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and shouldn’t do, but I know what works for me. I’d just be too frightened about what it means long term. “

Cate adds that there is a certain look to women who have had a lot of cosmetic work which she finds highly unattractive.

“If you have all that stuff done, in the end you just see the work,” the mu-of-four said. “It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.”

As well swearing by sunscreen to protect her radiant complexion, the award-winning star ensures her skin is hydrated, she told Byrdie.

“It’s all about hydration in winter—when it’s cold I forget to drink water. So, over the winter months I use lashings of Armani Crema Nera and drink endless cups of hot water with lemon.”

The one piece of beauty advice she’d like to pass on? “Lymphatic drainage, lymphatic drainage, lymphatic drainage. I love a good facial massage. It’s simultaneously relaxing and invigorating. A few minutes of Tai Chi. It wakes everything up.”

Pink, 46

Another famous face who’s opened up about why she “cannot get behind” plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures is singer Pink, 46.

In a candid “note to self” shared on X, the So What singer, spoke out about the changes she’s experiencing as she grows older, writing: “Dear Me, you’re getting older. I see lines. Especially when you smile. Your nose is getting bigger… You look (and feel) weird as you get used to this new reality.

“But your nose looks like your kids, and your face wrinkles where you laugh… and yeah you idiot… u smoked,” Pink continued, as per People.

However, amid all the changes and growing older, the American popstar vowed to never go under the knife or get Botox.

“Continued note to self: Every once in a while you consider altering your face, and then you watch a show where you want to see what the person is feeling… and their face doesn’t move. I cannot get behind it. I just can’t.”

Another reason why Pink refuses to alter her looks: “I want my children to know what I look like when I’m angry.”

“I’m fortunate because I’ve never really depended on my looks,” Pink wrote. “I’ve decided that my talent and my individuality is far more important than my face.”

When it comes to her beauty secrets, Pink – real name Alecia Beth Moore – uses a primer to ensure her make-up stays intact.

They are liquids, gels, powders or creams that serve as a base for your makeup so it goes on smooth and lasts long. That’s a big deal if you, like Pink, are performing powerful acrobatics on stage.

How much does Botox cost?

BOTOX and anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available today.

Botox injections work by weakening or paralyzing certain muscles or by blocking certain nerves.

The effects last about three to twelve months, depending on what you are treating.

The NHS website estimates each botulinum toxin injection costs £150-£350 per session.

The price varies depending on how much is used per session, they add.

Botox prices fluctuate depending on where you go to get it done and the number of areas treated.

Some companies offer one area for around the £200 mark, and most offer packages if you want to add more areas to your treatment.

It is worth doing your research before you undergo the treatment – and remember that going ‘cheap’ isn’t always a good idea.
