Does Arne Slot’s future rest on tonight’s clash?
There’s a good chance it does as Liverpool aim to reach the Champions League quarter-final stage for the first time since 2021-22.
The Reds were booed off the pitch by their own supporters on Sunday after failing to beat relegation-threatened Tottenham. It capped off a terrible week that also saw them lose 1-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul.
Liverpool now have just one win in their last four games in all competitions and missed the chance to break into the Champions League qualification places.
That’s something not lost on goalscorer Dominik Szoboszlai, who told his side to “wake up” or be satisfied with playing Conference League football next season…
History suggests they are more than capable of waking up.
Liverpool have won 15 of their last 19 European matches at Anfield, while their overall record after a 1-0 first-leg away defeat is also encouraging, with nine wins from 13 ties.
But they run into an in-form Galatasaray side who arrive at Anfield on a five-game winning streak and have already eliminated Juventus from the competition.
That said, it was hardly convincing. After a resounding home win, Galatasaray collapsed in Turin, conceding three times to the hosts despite Juventus playing with 10 men from the 48th minute onwards.
Despite winning each of their last four against Liverpool, Galatasaray’s overall record in England is poor. The Turkish champions have won just one of their 12 previous away matches against English sides.

I can’t ignore Galatasaray’s complete collapse in Turin, especially against a Juventus side in mixed form and playing with 10 men for the majority of the second half, generating an xG of 5.20.
