AT least one person is dead and 25 injured after a tram derailed in Milan and smashed into a store.
The tram, headed for Porta Genova, derailed on Via Vitto Veneto.
After detaching from the track, the vehicle smashed into a shop window, crushing one person to death.
The victim was reportedly trapped under the trams wheels.
It is not yet known why the tram came off the tracks near the centre of the northern Italian city, a business hub currently hosting its Fashion Week.
Emergency medical services, including six ambulances and a medic car, scrambled to the scene.
Firefighters managed to extract passengers from inside the tram. Their conditions are currently unclear.
