At £40, Dunelm’s patio heater is a cheap way to stay warm on spring evenings

AFTER months of cold snaps and grey skies, it finally feels like garden season is getting closer.

But spring evenings in the UK can still be pretty chill – which is why Dunelm’s Wall-Mounted Patio Heater looks like such a smart purchase at £40.

Priced at £40 (down from £50), it’s a relatively low-cost way to add a bit of warmth to a patio, pergola or seating area without splashing out on a larger freestanding model.

The heater uses infrared technology, so it delivers heat quickly rather than needing time to warm up the surrounding air.

It has a 2000W output and three heat settings, so you can tweak it depending on how cold it gets in the evening.

Dunelm also says it’s economical to run and IP34-rated for outdoor use, which means it has some protection against splashes and the usual changeable British weather.

Reviews suggest shoppers have been impressed by how much heat it gives off, especially for the price.

One customer said it was “worth every penny” and added that it provides “that extra warmth on a chilly evening, or daytime even”.

Another reviewer said it was “perfect to use on a sheltered pergola”, while a more recent buyer noted that the cable was long enough and that it “works fine”, although they did mention a strong smell the first time it was switched on.

That does appear to fade after a few uses.

It’s not a heater that will transform a large open garden in the middle of winter, and one review flagged an issue with the fixing plate, so the installation may be worth checking before you buy.

Still, for £40 and with an overall strong customer rating, it looks like a practical option for anyone hoping to stay outside a little longer this spring.
