Arsenal will target Anthony Gordon transfer with Gunners ahead of Liverpool and Man Utd in £75million summer chase

ARSENAL will target Anthony Gordon this summer – and they hope to land him for £75million.

The Premier League leaders are currently ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United in the race for the England international and believe he would be happy to head south and move to London.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been a long-time admirer of Gordon from his spell at Everton.

He has two years left on his contract and Newcastle will demand £95m for the player although realistically Arsenal are likely to end up paying between £75m and £80m.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen on the left wing, which could mean the likely departure of Gabriel Martinelli.

Gordon, who turned 25 this week, was ready to move to Liverpool two years ago but the move fell through.

Although he has rubbished transfer talk, insisting he is happy at Newcastle, it is understood that Gordon could move if the club receives the right offer.

Arsenal boss Arteta also likes Gordon’s versatility and he has been playing as a number 9 for Eddie Howe at Newcastle in recent weeks.

Gordon has struggled with his form for much of this season but he is still certain to be included in Thomas Tuchel‘s latest England squad for the home friendlies with Uruguay and Japan next month and should still feature at this summer’s World Cup.

Arteta was handed £250million to spend on players last summer, bringing his overall total to over £1billion.

Although the Spanish manager will be under huge pressure from supporters if he fails to win the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, the club’s board will sanction more summer spending.

Arsenal might also have to deal with some summer departures.

Christian Norgaard arrived from Brentford for £10m last summer but has yet to start a Premier League game due to the form of Martin Zubimendi and is looking to move.

Ben White is also set to have options to move and he is also looking for more regular first-team football.
